Meet Jenn & Andrea

We are two elementary school teachers and moms from the Hamilton area. We share a passion for supporting small businesses and local makers, as well as a lifelong love of reading.

As Teachers, we see the importance of early literacy skills everyday. For us, reading goes beyond just the words on the page and instead is a window into deep conversations and connections with children of all ages. As Mother's, we love the quality time and connection reading provides our children - books are at the forefront of all our play based learning at home.

While thinking about all of life's big lessons that our children will be faced with, we understand the importance of starting these conversations early, in hopes to raise kind, sensitive, socially aware and confident children.

Naturally, we turned to books to help encourage and promote empathy, curiosity and self-regulation with our own kids. From introducing potty training to navigating fear or anxiety with our little babes, we are constantly sharing titles of books and ideas with one another. When we began to see how our toddlers responded to our intentional book picks, we began to rethink Little Babe Collective.
We recognize not everyone has the time, energy or passion for children's literacy, and with so many options it's hard to determine what books will be instant favourites, as well as be inclusive, diverse and provide opportunities for those big conversations.

Reading should be at the very least enjoyable. So when you find a good book, we believe it can extend into play to make those big connections between what our children are reading, hearing and then inherently understanding in their own creative play.

We have intentionally picked books based on the themes of empathy, growth mindset and diversity and inclusion. We believe all three of these are foundations for children to grow into confident, emotionally intelligent and compassionate people.

We hope you and your little babes love this fun collection as much as we do. Here's to sparking curiosity, encouraging empathy and nurturing resilient children who will make an impact on the world around us.
